July 23, 2018The Africa Centre for International Trade and Development (ACINTaD) participates in the Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Africa-wide multi-stakeholder consultation on the AfCFTA being organised in Accra, Ghana from June 12-14, 2018 is being hosted by Third World Network-Africa (TWN) as part of interventions by members of the Africa Trade Network (ATN) since the launch of discussions on the continental free trade area. The consultation involves policy makers, including representatives from the regional economic communities and national governments, civil society organisations, and representatives from the private sector. The consultation offers a moment to evaluate the framework agreement and to adopt an agenda of national and regional work to engage with the consultations envisaged towards ratification of the AfCFTA as well as other related follow-up processes.
ACINTaD was represented by the Chief Executive, Isaac Hubert Arthur. “This Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on the AfCFTA is very important for ACINTaD as it gives us a platform to meet and network with like-minded civil society organisations (CSOs), private sector, and trade officials from all the regional economic communities (RECs) in Africa”, said Mr. Arthur.
One of the core areas that ACINTaD is focused on is the African Continental Free Trade Area to contribute to the various stages of the negotiations and implementation, with the aim of promoting intra-Africa trade. The organisation hopes to continue with participation and engagements with future meetings on the AfCFTA.
